The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the Volley-All Festival of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has made arrangements to conduct a volleyball coaching clinic for school level players of Badulla district on 31 May and 01 June 2011.This training programme will be conducted at the Denzil Kobbekaduwa National school grounds at Hali-Ela and is conducted in line with the annual programme of the volleyball federation.
Three Hundred (300) boys and girls representing the Badulla District are expected to attend this event. A training programme for the Volleyball referees of the district too will be conducted simultaneously to this coaching clinic. Referees training will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Referees Association.
Messrs AA Jayathissa, ND Gunasena, Ajantha Dahanayake, Janaka Indrajith, who are national volleyball coaches along with Ms.Yuko Masu , a volunteer coach attached to island through Jaica Scheme of Japan will be in charge of this training team. They will be assisted by international referee Mr.Priyantha Senevirathne.
The DSI Group has come forward to sponsor this training programme and is expected to provide sports attire, meals and accommodation facilities for the participants including referees. The Sri Lanka Volleyball federation will provide volleyballs and required volleyball gear to the schools of these children in a bid to promote the national game in the district at this coaching camp. The President of the Volleyball Federation, Minister Dilan Perera will be the Chief Guest of the opening ceremony of the event due at 1000hrs on 31 may 2011.

All the countries of the Central Zone Segment of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) met in Chennai on the 27thof April 2011.
 
This meeting which was chaired by Dr. B. Sivanthi Adityan 1st Vice President of the FIVB  (the World Governing Body for Volleyball) and Executive Vice-President, AVC (CZ). This has 14 Countries affiliated to this body. These Countries are:

At this meeting it was unanimously resolved
 
(a)   Asian Central Zone Secretariat be established in Sri Lanka.
 
(b) Hon. Dilan Perera (M.P.) President Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and Minister of   Foreign Employment Promotion & Welfare as the Chairman.
 
(C) Mr. Susil Ranasinghe Secretary General Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation as the   Secretary General.
 
This is a great Honor for Sri Lanka and is a clear indication of what the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has achieved during the last few years under the guidance of its President, Hon. Dilan Perera. Besides this is considered as an unique victory for the national game of Sri Lanka.
 
The activities of the Secretariat a part from the monitoring the activities of all Asian Central Zone Countries would include a host of other functions. Primary activities will be ;
 
(a)   Ascertaining the feasibility of conducting qualification tournaments amongst Central Zone Countries prior to their participation in Asian Central Zone Championship.

(b)   The organizing of various Central Zone Championships among Member Countries with suitable dates, venue, etc.

(c)    Organizing of Asian Central Zone Beach Volleyball Championships with suitable dates, venue, etc.

(d)   South Asian Federation Championships for different age group.

(e) Zonal Competitions for Junior and Youth levels.

(f) conducting International Technical Seminars and Clinics.

Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has made arrangements to commence national volleyball
pools for both men and women categories, in view of the forthcoming 16th Asian Senior
Volleyball Championships. The women’s championship will be held from 15 to 23
September 2011 in Chinese Taipei while the men’s championship will be held from 25
September to 03 October 2011 in Tehran, Iran.
The national selection trial for women will be held
on 24 and 25 May 2011 while men’s selection will be on 26 and 27 May 2011.Both trials
will be worked off at the Torrington Indoor Stadium, in Colombo, commencing at 0830
hrs daily. Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has already appointed Mr. Kumar Wendakoon
as the Head Coach of the men’s team while Mr. Charles Thilakarathne will be in charge
of the women’s team. Incidentally, both these coaches completed the FIVB level 3
Coaching Course last year and considered as the best in the business at present.

The National Volleyball Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in collaboration with Ceylon Biscuits Ltd concluded on 07 May 2011 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
The Minister of Sports Hon.Mahindananda Aluthgamage, the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minster Dilan Perera, Mr.Namal Rajapaksa (M.P) Commanders of Air Force and Navy,Mr.Nandana Wickramage,Group Director Ceylon Biscuits Ltd along with a distinguished gathering participated at the final session of the event. The national championship was conducted in two categories. The super league for the senior and junior national players, while the second division for the novices. In the second division, over four thousand teams took part in the competition, which was conducted in three levels, namely; divisional, provincial and national level.
Casualine Sports Club Mawathagama beat Vijaya Sports Club Koswadiya 3-0 in the women’s final of the second division while National Youth Services Council beat Sri Lanka Army 3-0 in the second division men’s finals.
In the women’s final of the Super league, the team from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment beat the Sri Lanka Air Force team three (3) sets to one (1). The score line read 21-25,25-17,25-20 and 25-12.In men’s final, it was the Sri Lanka Ports Authority team who got the better of Sri Lanka Navy team three (3) sets to one(1) The scores were 25-21, 25-23,18-25, and 25-13..Incidentally, Sri Lanka Ports Authority won the men’s National Championship after 21 year wait while the Foreign Employment team won the women’s Championship on their debut.

A meeting of the Member Countries of the AVC Central Zone numbering 14 was held in Chennai on 27th April 2011.

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation was a represented at this meeting by Hon. Dilan Perera President of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion & Welfare and Mr. Susil Ranasinghe Secretary General of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation.
The meeting was very fruitful resulting in discussion of various steps to be taken for the Development of Volleyball in the Asian Region.

The VCP Beach Volleyball Grassroots Course, which got underway on 02 May 2011 at Marawila, Sri Lanka came to a successful conclusion on 06 May 2011.The closing ceremony of the course was held with the participation of the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minister Dilan Perera and a host of distinguished gathering.
32 participants including 2 female coaches completed the six day residential training programme and were awarded with FIVB certificates. Speaking at the occasion the President of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation expressed confidence that these coaches who represent the entire provinces would be able to popularize the discipline of Beach Volleyball by introducing the game to more schools and clubs.

Volleyball fraternity in Sri Lanka is to witness some enthralling volleyball when the finals of Munchee national Volleyball Championship 2011 will get underway on 07 May 2011 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The tournament is being conducted by the Sri LankaVolleyball Federation with Ceylon Biscuits Ltd being the main sponsors. According to the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Minister Dilan Perera more than four thousand teams took part in this years competition with great enthusiasm prevailed in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
In the 2nd division finals of the national championship Casualine Sports Club Mawathagama will confront Vijaya Sports Club Koswadiya in the women's category. In the men's event it will be Sri Lanka Army Kandy team that will take on National Youth Services Council Team.
In the super league category, Sri Lanka Air Force women will meet the ladies from the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment. In the much awaited men's finals Sri Lanka Ports Authority will take on the Sri Lanka Navy, who is appearing at a national final for the first time in the history. Ironically, the defending champions of both categories have failed to make it to the finals this year. Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Ports Authority won the men's and women's championships last year. Winners of all categories will receive handsome cash awards and trophies.

The VCP BVB Grassroots Course which is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in collaboration with the FIVB got underway on 02 May 2011at Marawila, 60 Km from capital city, Colombo. The Course Director, for this training programme is Mr. Mohammad Benhaminda of Qatar and the course is due to terminate on 06 May 2011.

The General Secretary of the Sri LankaVolleyball Federation, Mr. Susil Ranasinghe along with a distinguished gathering attended the opening ceremony.30 male and 02 female coaches representing the entire provinces of the country have been selected to follow this training in a view to popularize the game in the island nation. The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka and The Ministry of Sports too have extended their fullest cooperation towards the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation in conducting this course.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVBF) has made all arrangements to conduct a FIVB Beach Volleyball Coaching Course in Sri Lanka from 01 May to 06 May 2011. This residential training programme will be held at Marawila beach frontage in front of the Hotel Mario and the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has already picked thirty five (35) local coaches to follow this course of training,


The Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee too had lent their fullest support towards this endeavour, according to the President of the SLVBF, Minister Dilan Perera.FIVB Beach Volleyball Instructor Mr. Mohamad Benhamidahas of Qatar been nominated by the FIVB to conduct this internationally reputed course of training. On successful completion of the course, the participants will be awarded with fivb certificates enabling them to engage in beach volleyball coaching.

Since volleyball coaches from all parts of the country including north and east are expected to follow the course, SLVBF is hoping to use this opportunity to promote and popularized beach volleyball through out the island.


The opening ceremony of the course will be held on 01 may 2011 at the Hotel Mario Marawila with the participation of the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, Hon. Minister Dilan Perera and a host of distinguished invitees.
